Fall Colours Ride

The NDATV Fall Colours Ride on Saturday October 22 saw 18 bikes and 21 riders attend. We travelled 136 km and although not a race and many stops along the way took 7 1/2 hours to complete including lunch and gas. I would like to thank the riders who attended from the Peterborough ATV Club to support this ride, and a special thanks to Barry who rode as the clean-up person insuring no one was left behind and everyone had a safe trip.

The weather was not looking promising all week, however, no rain, but cold with the north west winds blowing reminding us that colder temperatures would soon arrive. We left County Road 50 at 9:30 and headed to the Marmora Mine. We encountered many puddles along the trail resulting from the rain from the past days. The trail to the east of the mine is wet most of the time, so we were anticipating a lot of water once we arrived there. We had a surprise, upon entering that part of the trail we found water but not as bad as expected. After a stop at the mine and a brief history lesson about the mine we made our way to Tweed via the work around, planned prior to the ride, it proved to be a bit of road running, but once again very surprised at the result. We encountered very little traffic and the roads were gravel to hard packed gravel with only a small portion of tar and chip. Arriving at Tweed we had lunch, with many riders making their way to Tim Hortons and Subway. At 2:30 we gather back at the water front park, ATV’s all gassed up and began our ride back to County Road 50, stopping a few times to socialize, we arriving back at the parking lot at approximately 5:00 pm.

All-in-all it was a great day for a ride no rain, no dust, and sunny breaks for the trip back.
